Trauma can, indeed does, have a massive effect on the traumatised individual. Naturally, with our interest in, and expertise with, working with traumatised clients, this is a truth we are well used to.

However, it is not only the survivor of trauma and neglect who can be affected by the fallout from personal experiences. Those around the unhealed survivor can also suffer unbearable and long lasting trauma. Also, of course, the trauma and neglect we see in the clients we support and work with, often, or even usually, starts in childhood, in the home. In the family.

We are able to offer support for couples wishing to work on their relationship, or families trying to solve and heal damage which has been done by difficulties in parenting and wishing to help the family heal.

Rashida is trained in Emotionally Focussed Couples Therapy, an experiential relational based approach to help couples to work through difficulties, sometimes based on early trauma in either or both sides of a couple, using an attachment based theoretical model.

She is also trained in a specialised parenting therapy called Video Interactive Guidance, helping mothers to learn to improve their engagement with their children, helping them to learn better parenting skills than they learnt in their own childhood.

The family is the child’s first and most influential teacher, but sometimes what they teach is survival instead of safety
