Learning is the discovery of the possible
Fritz Perls
Dissociation is a natural process, the (often unconscious) act of separating ones attention from current awareness. We all dissociate from time to time, even day-dreaming is a form of dissociation.
When a person is overwhelmed, traumatised, and unprotected, one possible outcome is - very creatively - to separate parts of the self from each other, in order to bear the unbearable.
We are specialists in working with dissociation, Dissociative Identity Disorder, (previously called Multiple Personality Disorder), and other dissociative conditions.
One of the most influential trainings in dissociation in the world is run by the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. We are full members of the ISSTD, having studied dissociative psychotherapy to advanced level, and are also members of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation.
Dissociative disorders are controversial. Our experience is that they are very real, and we are experienced in treating them with long term attachment-based psychotherapy and with Lifespan Integration.
We also offer specialised supervision to therapists and counsellors working with dissociative clients, and consultancy and training around dissociation.
